Betsy Podlach was born in NY in 1964, studied painting while obtaining her BA as a Watson Scholar, in English and American Literature and Language at Harvard University. Before obtaining her MFA, Betsy attended The New York Studio School of Drawing Painting and Sculpture in NYC, NY for four years while on scholarship, and was awarded the Seligman Von Simpson and the Thomas J Revson Memorial Scholarship and a full scholarship to the International School of Art in Umbria where she continued her studies with Nicolas Carone.
In a recent review of one of Ms. Podlach’s approximately 30 solo shows in commercial galleries in the USA and Europe, the New York Times wrote: “In working below the level of conscious thought, (Podlach), creates canvases rich in interactive but ultimately opaque narratives. The paintings’ almost hypnotic appeal derives in part from the balance of what she calls “oppositions”, mystery and openness.” Podlach’s paintings are in public and private collections including NYU, Pfizer Inc, Donatella Borghese, of Rome Italy, the actor Christopher Walken, News Anchor George Stephanopolous, and former CEO Jack Welch. The artist has lived in Paris, France, Umbria, Italy, NYC, NY, Jackson, Wyoming, and Hampton Bays, NY. Podlach lives in Mount Airy, Philadelphia, PA.
