Garrett Ure is a Glasgow based artist, maker and educator, having recently completed a postgraduate in MLitt Sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art (Distinction). Previous to this, Garrett had studied Sculpture and Environmental Art at The Glasgow School of Art, graduating in July 2023 (First Class).
Garrett’s practice revolves around themes surrounding craft and material circularity, almost exclusively in the sculptural realm. He employs a plethora of skills from hand tool woodworking to leatherworking, manipulating a range of found and donated objects to explore their innate materiality. To support his practice, Garrett is an advocate for industry intervention, having previously worked in partnership with Bridge of Weir Leather and The Glasgow Wood Recycling Centre. Additionally, he committed himself to a month long stay in Athenry, Ireland, working as a trained timer framer, building houses for locals without a single nail. Furthermore, he is also a member of the Technical Support staff at The Glasgow School of Art, working with students from the School of Fine Art in the wood workshop as a Workshop Assistant.
