Jonathan Straight/ Romance

Jonathan Straight is an award-winning photographer based in Yorkshire, UK, specialising in street and reportage photography as well as portraits - predominantly in black and white. He has given more attention to his photographic practice following a successful career as an environmental entrepreneur. When not taking photographs, he is a trustee of several charities including creativity specialists, Just Add Creativity (formerly We Are IVE) and the international waste management development organisation WasteAid. He has previously been a director of The Tetley art gallery in Leeds. Jonathan's work has been featured in three solo exhibitions in his home town of Leeds and has had work featured in the Flux exhibition in Greenwich as well as in shows at the Boomer Gallery and The Holy Art Gallery in London. For the entirety of 2022, he has an installation at the South Elmsall Museum Hub telling local histories through images, words and objects. One of Jonathan's images of the black rights activist Marvina Newton was a winner of the 5th series of Portrait of Britain in 2022. He has published four books of photography, including the acclaimed Vegans in Iceland, a study of the vegan community on the volcanic island.
