Michele has been a mixed media artist since working for her MA. in the 1990s. Her work focuses on impermanence, the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi, life, death, and renewal. She found making work in response to the Francis Street building was exciting. The decaying building had its beauty. Ceiling paper hung down like roosting bats, thick paint cracked and lifting off walls like lizard scales. Even her picture frames responded to the cold, damp conditions. A disaster in a normal art gallery their swelling and cracking was perfect in this situation, adding, not detracting. Her small room became an unexpected installation.
